The movement of trains or a group of cars becomes a colored whoosh and people who sit or stand still for a few seconds longer then become the main characters of the story.
I interviewed the Dutch photographer Martin Roemers about his project which he started in 2007 and finished in 2015. He made a photoserie about street life in bustling metropolises that is now on display in Huis Marseille. This interview was for the blog of the Loeb Fellowship at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard.

In De Stad Staat op Radio 1 gaat verslaggeefster Marielle Beers op zoek naar hoe de stad in de toekomst zal veranderen. Dinsdag 13 juli nam Tracy haar mee naar het Beukenplein in Amsterdam-Oost om te laten zien hoe de stad van de toekomst er uit zou kunnen zien:
“Je ziet het sinds de crisis en de toename van het aantal ZZP’ers: niemand wil meer alleen thuis werken, je hebt contact nodig. Veel van dit soort koffietentjes zijn de nieuwe kantoren, waar mensen ideeën uitwisselen. Terwijl niemand dus meer in kantoren langs de snelweg wil zitten, gaan de nieuwe creatievelingen zich in dit soort koffietentjes vestigen.“

The tagline ‘Open Mind Sharp Business’ expresses the correlation between the mentality and the business climate of the Amsterdam region. ‘Open mind’ refers to the region’s diversity, inclusiveness, openness to new ideas and quality of life. ‘Sharp business’ emphasizes innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to do business swiftly. I am one of the Amsterdammers who were asked to embody the character of Amsterdam for this short film for the IAmsterdam campaign.

During TEDx Zwolle I gave a lecture about water in the city around the world. The sea and the rivers have shaped the identity and the country itself. Climate change increases the risk of flooding and drought. The effects of a disaster in a densely populated country like The Netherlands are incalculable.
