The pleasures of travel in Scotland: endless kinds of local beer, smoked fish and produce from the farm through a vending machine in the wall. History is never far away here, with Graham Fagen’s melancholy ‘Slave’s Lament’ in the National Portrait Gallery and one of Scotland’s earlier attempts at independence in Arbroath.

This week were my first days of vacation. I took the overnight boat to Scotland, quite an adventure in itself. Of course I had to finish some work before: a inspiring (and yummy!) thinking dinner in our Salon, a meeting at Booking for the John Adams Institute and the summer party of New Angle.

One of the reasons I love Amsterdam is because there is always something unexpected happening – like a choir singing classical music on a boat in the canal and a whole parade of naked cyclists passing by my kitchen window. No wonder more and more people want to live here. But how to house them all? I spoke about this with Esther Agricola, head of Planning and Sustainability of the city of Amsterdam. Hi there! This week I took a look at the development of a new Amsterdam neighborhood: Amstel III, a.k.a. Amstelstad. Interesting to see how the muncipality wants to develop this into a neighborhood with the focus on health. We got also a lesson in how to create a gym in your own office, for those perky glutes we all want. This week I saw my last three Holland Festival performances: amazing, drank tea with my loooooongterm friend Deborah and attended a very lively birthday party.
