Monday 8th of February, Tracy Metz speaks with Stavros Stavrides (researcher and activist) about the impact of the crisis on Athens and how grassroots initiatives thrive in these difficult times. With Lucas de Man (theatermaker of In Search of Europe) as commentator and musical interludes by students of the Amsterdam University of Arts.
Stavros Stavrides is a Greek architect who is currently associate professor at the School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens. Stavrides researches how the crisis has affected the notion of public space in cities and is at the same time an activist in several of the civilian initiatives that are popping up in Athens at enormous speed.
Lucas de Man is artistic leader of Nieuwe Helden foundation, director at Het Zuidelijk Toneel and official artist of the city of Den Bosch (2013-2016). For his theaterpiece and documentary ‘In Search of Europe’ he travelled in June 2015 through 17 cities in 8 European countries to meet writers, thinkers and makers who are searching for new forms of living together in these changing times for Europe.
