We are pleased to announce another collaboration with Toneelgroep Amsterdam, this time with their performance of Tennessee Williams’ legendary play The Glass Menagerie (Glazen Speelgoed). This is the first play directed outside America by rising star Sam Stone. The Glass Menagerie, one of the most powerful plays of the 20th century, is a tale of love, loss and the disparate hopes and dreams of a family at odds. The Dutch version of Glazen Speelgoed has been highly praised and actor Chris Nietvelt has been nominated for the Theo d’Or Award for her role as Amanda Wingfield. Eelco Smits has also been nominated for the Arlecchino Award for his role as Tom Wingfield.
On September 22nd, Glazen Speelgoed will be performed with English surtitles. On that same evening, the John Adams will host a special pre-event at the Stadsschouwburg with dramaturgist Vera Hoogstad and two of the actors about the play and Tennessee Williams. The event will be moderated by John Adams-director Tracy Metz. For subscribers to our newsletters, we can offer a discount of 7.50 euro on combined tickets for the play (dress-circle tickets) + pre-event.
