People's Place

We are obsessed by the lifestyles of the rich and famous. The journey to wealth and fame can be plated in gold, but also has brutal realities. The John Adams Institute welcomes the acclaimed American photographer and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield as she discusses her newest monograph Generation Wealth, a visual commentary on the global growth of materialism over the last 25 years. The series seeks to expose not only the result of wealth, but also the raw reality of the desire to be rich. With her powerful observations Greenfield challenges the ugly truths of our society.

Lauren Greenfield is most recognized for her Emmy-award-winning commercial, Like a Girl, which was viewed on Youtube over 80 million times and was re-released in a shorter version as a Super Bowl ad. Her feature-length documentary The Queen of Versailles won the Best Documentary Directory Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012.

Her many films, exhibitions and monographs such as Girl Culture, Fast Forward and THIN have defined her as a prominent chronicler of youth culture, gender issues and consumerism.
