Elk beeld bevat vele lagen: hoe langer je kijkt, en hoe groter de afdruk, hoe meer je ziet. Als kijker sta je erbuiten, de fotograaf staat erboven, en toch krijg je het gevoel er middenin te staan.
Naar aanleiding van het in 2007 gestarte project, schreef ik over de tentoonstelling ‘Metropolis’ van de Nederlandse fotograaf Martin Roemers. In de serie laat Roemers zien hoe is het om in zo’n reusachtige, overvolle stad te leven. Zonder kleur of geluid weet de fotograaf indringend over te brengen wat die mondiale verstedelijking voor de inwoners betekent. De tentoonstelling Metropolis is nu te zien tot 6 maart 2016 in Huis Marseille.

The Netherlands Government Building Agency commissioned a ‘future-proof’ building from UNStudio for a combined Tax Office and Education Executive Agency. It is di wrote about it for the American magazine Metropolis. UNStudio designed it in such a way that, thanks to the most modern technology, it can in time morph from offices into apartments if need be. Moreover, it is a beautiful sculpture that marks the entrance to the city.
