The young, affordable, contemporary counterpart of the très arrivé Paris Photo is NoFound. It was held this year for the second time and was also at the festival in Arles this past summer. NoFound’s mission: ‘Contemporary art galleries are teeming with artists who work through the medium of photography: mixed media artists, sculptors, performance artists. Our aim is to shed light on the links between photography and contemporary art.’ One of the exhibitors in the enormous garage on the rue Turenne was the flamboyant collector Marty de Montereau. One of this year’s surprises at Paris Photo was East Wing, a new international platform for photography and art from the ‘Greater Middle East’ located in Doha, Qatar. Creative director is Hester Keijser, whom I knew as the perceptive blogger on photographyMrs. Deane. East Wing started just five months ago and presented itself this fall at both Amsterdam’s new photo fair Unseen and at Paris Photo. Read the article…

Paris Photo is het jaarlijkse hoogtepunt van de foto als handelswaar. De beurs wordt nu in de Grand Palais gehouden en bevat een overweldigende hoeveelheid beeld, variërend van 19e-eeuwse prenten tot de grofgepixelde naakten van Thomas Ruff tot een beroemde foto van Irving Penn, Cuzco Children, die de Londense galerie Hamilton voor 1 miljoen dollar aanbiedt. Ook bijzonder was het om bij een lezing daar, Thomas Ruff tegen zijn oud-docente Hilla Becher te horen zeggen: ‘Toen ik bij jullie kwam studeren vond ik die eindeloze serie industriële monumenten in zwart-wit really boring‘.
