The Design Academy Eindhoven has moved its 2018 graduation show to the former Campina milk factory on the edge of town.. There’s lots of space not only for the objects, but also for the ideas behind them. I chose four that address both the physical and the digital domains, from morphed office chairs to the way women sit in public, with their knees together… but not on Anna Jensen’s chairs!
Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, a.k.a. the Dutch design duo Studio Drift, are famous worldwide for their poetic works that mix technology with nature. They have their first solo exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam, from the 25th of April until 26th of August 2018, including well-known works such as Fragile Future, the Drifter, Shylight and Amplitude. Dutch journalist Tracy Metz got the chance to take a look at the making of the exhibition and interviewed Lonneke Gordijn.
For three decades now the magazine Items has been the Netherlands’ design conscience. Items is serious and thoughtful; it is more about the culture of design than about the business of the market. ‘In our pages you won’t find the usual overstyled parade of chairs,’ says editor-in-chief Max Bruinsma.
