Het had een echt gesprek zullen zijn, face to face en voor publiek, op het toneel van het Frascati Theater, over theater en architectuur. Het event zou een samenwerking zijn van het Holland Festival en het John Adams Institute, waarvan ik de directeur ben. Wat een buitenkans om een bijzondere vrouw te spreken: Liz Diller, een van de grote vrouwen in de hedendaagse architectuur en de ‘D’ van DS+R, Diller Scofidio and Renfro, een van de belangrijkste bureau’s in de hedendaagse architectuur.
Aanleiding voor haar komst naar Amsterdam, en voor het interview, was haar samenwerking met de associate artist van het Holland Festival dit jaar, de choreograaf Bill T. Jones. Ze kennen elkaar al zo’n twintig jaar; nu heeft ze het toneelbeeld ontworpen voor zijn voorstelling Deep Blue Sea, die medio april in première zou gaan in the Armory in New York en daarna naar het Holland Festival zou komen.

Hi there! This week I took a look at the development of a new Amsterdam neighborhood: Amstel III, a.k.a. Amstelstad. Interesting to see how the muncipality wants to develop this into a neighborhood with the focus on health. We got also a lesson in how to create a gym in your own office, for those perky glutes we all want. This week I saw my last three Holland Festival performances: amazing, drank tea with my loooooongterm friend Deborah and attended a very lively birthday party.

This week I did something very exciting: I moderated a symposium about depopulation in the Royal Palace where His Majesty, King of the Netherlands Willem Alexander, Queen Máxima and Her Royal Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands were all three in attendence. In another fancy pancy environment, I got to announce the nominations for the Amsterdam Art Prize. Also I interviewed professor Mark Shucksmith on depopulation and Sarah Leary of the neighbourhoodapp Nextdoor. Later in the week, I spoke on a huge boat about climate responsive water design, saw an amazing performance at the Holland Festival and went to the Fotomuseum in Den Hague to see the black&white photographs of Peter Hujar.
